Plan and develop pre-production materials (U3: P3, M2)

Learning Outcome 2 (U3); Be able to plan and develop pre-production materials

MOODBOARD:

Creating a mood board as part of my pre-production process was critical as the magazine I am creating includes evidently all the aspects of the film, therefore this mood board enabled me to visualize all the aspects that I need to include in the content of my magazine.

FRONT COVER LAYOUT:

DOUBLE-PAGE SPREAD:

As seen above I have presented both my front cover and double page spread mock-ups additionally I have also shown the digital mock-up of my front cover and double page spread. The mock-up that was drawn on the front cover presents the initial ideas of the magazine; you can see I always had the idea to present this idea of the creation of films and motivating people by using diverse content. As seen in the digital mock I took these ideas and implemented them. I used the same fonts ( or similar ones) and created the background as I had imagined. I used a dark blue background to ensure the flash of the camera is noticeable and that it has the same captivity that it would have in real life. I included social media shortcuts and a barcode to really imply what my magazine would look like once it's on the shelves. On my double-page spread I bring my magazine to life as I present how I would structure the magazine. The idea of a dress in the middle shows how I would use this to captivate my audience, as seen in my digital mock-up I take this idea further by presenting the costume design of the well-known yellow dress seen in 'La la Land". Content included in the article is also presented in my double-page spread as I show how I would interview someone who has impacted the film industry and use information based off of the interview to create further research and content.

LOCATION RECCE:

LOCATION RECCE FOR FRONT COVER

Location: Camden

Location Address: Camden, Road, London NW1 9HE

Why is the location suitable for my project?

Camden Road is a location within North London where a lot of creative people settle. This is because Camden has always had a reputation for being a place of creativity and freedom. This location is suitable for my project as first of all it is recognizable to my target audience as Camden High Road is a well-known tourist attraction alongside being a residential area. Additionally, the area itself is very compatible with the type of content. Want to create for my magazine.

Train

Bus

-27 Chalk Farm

-31 White City

-168 Hampstead Heath

General Information

People who are affected- Camden High Road is generally always filled with tourists and many people come to Camden to create content which is beneficial as getting location permission will be more accessible.  However, as there might be so many people whilst filming this could impact the efficiency of the project as we would have to be more cautious of who is around us and make sure no one gets into the shot without permission.

How to minimize the impact: To minimize this we will film on weekdays as fewer people will be in the area, and if there are people, they will most likely be local residents.

Power sources: All the technology used will not need a power outlet in order to use them, however, we need to ensure everything is fully charged to enable a good amount of time to create content.

LOCATION RECCE FOR DOUBEL PAGE SPREAD

Location: Models studios

Location Address: 47 Rothschild road N12 RPY

Why is the location suitable for my project?

This location is my model’s studio based in North London. We used this location for multiple reasons. First of all, the model requested this location as it was more suitable for her as during the time she was busy, so as a team we worked around her schedule. Another reason we found the studio to be suitable for the double page spread was as the location was accessible for us as a team to reach and we felt the background the use of North London looking houses we would have been able to reach our target audience personally.

RISK ASSESSMENT:

This risk assessment reviews all possible risks that could occur, their level of risk, and how to control them. This document is beneficial especially in the preparation of the magazine as creating content will include visiting different people and areas that a person might not be familiar with.

Type of Hazard

When might the risk occur

How to Control the Risk

Level of risk

Bad Weather

This risk could occur every time we will be photographing a location that acquires travel. Bad weather can affect transpiration, cause traffic, delays, etc.

A way we can control this risk is by making contingency plans that in a crisis can help us make use of photographers, equipment, catering, etc without causing lots of harm.

Medium Risk

Very Busy

This risk could occur when creating content from within the high street as tourists and residents could get in the way or disrupt the photographers.

One way we can control this risk is by scheduling the shoot on a weekday when it is not as busy.

High Risk

Equipment getting damaged

As we are shooting outside this risk could occur with the effect of weather or the equipment being handled badly.

We must ensure we are organized and aware of who is using the equipment at all times to make sure the equipment is not being misused and that the equipment is safe.

Medium Risk

Out-of-charge camera

As we are shooting in Camden which is a place of location that the team would have to travel to a risk could be the camera running out of charge.

We would control this risk by preparing all equipment the day before, making sure the camera works properly and has a good lasting charge.

Low Risk

No available space

This risk could occur when planning has not been done accordingly and the space, we need to use in the high street to shoot may already be used by different teams as it is a common place to film/shoot, etc.

We could control this by having a contingency plan which may involve going to a different available setting around Camden.

Medium Risk

Sick personnel

This risk could occur when personnel are sick, and we might not have someone to fulfill their job.

We could control this by having a contingency place in which we make sure we can be flexible. For example, if the model is sick on a shooting day then other personnel can focus on articles or editing so time is not wasted.

High Risk

Transport Issues

As Camden is an area that attracts many tourists, public transport will most likely be very busy and other forms of transport such as Uber can become very costly.

We could control this risk by hiring a small coach for the team beforehand, however, if this does not fit within the budget we would travel on a day that is not busy.

Medium Risk

FONT STYLES

Colour Scheme

The color scheme I decided on was based on subtle, natural colors.  The colors I plan on using are different shades of blue and white. This is because the text and the model on the magazine must be what stands out the magazine so the audience is easily informed on what the media product offers. In addition to this, subtle colours correlate better with the genre of film production, however throughout the magazine colour schemes can change depending on the feature/model or the production that is being discussed. For instance, within the double page spread I plan on using brighter colours that correlate with the models personality.

GANTT CHART

This GANTT chart represents the progression of the magazine before we launch it to the public.

M2: Legal and Ethical Issues are identified and resolved for the planned production

LEGAL ISSUES

LEGAL: Copyrights, Designs Act 1988
The Copyrights, Designs Act 1988 was created to ensure all work of someone who has created it is not taken and used by someone else without credit and permission from the first party. This is an evident legal issue that must be applied in the magazine with two aspects.  The first aspect is that as our photographers are generating content that they would have created we must ensure the Copyrights, Designs Act 1988 Is applied so anyone who uses our content is not able to use it without permission or credit. This protects the work created by our photographers. The second aspect is to ensure all content being researched to be put into the magazine must be ethically found and used appropriately so that when the magazine is launched we can avoid legal issues.

LEGAL: Data Protection Act
The Data Protection Act was legalized in order to protect the data of people and to ensure companies do not exploit private data. This is a critical legal issue that the magazine must follow as we are interviewing personnel within the film industry we must ensure all data being protected has been given permission to be used within the magazine. Additionally, the Data Protection Act protects our personnel from any private data being collected as they are part of a business.

LEGAL:Intellectual Property Act
The intellectual property act is if you have created something then it is entitled as your intellectual property. This a crucial legal regulation that protects the magazine. The magazine needs to be protected from many things such as other competing magazines copying our content, business owners reselling our magazine, and any other type of unauthorized use.

 ETHICAL ISSUES:

ETHICAL: Race and Ethnicity
The magazine needs to ensure that it accommodates all customers. This is especially significant as North London is such a multicultural populated area. By being inclusive of different races and ethnicities we increase the target audience.

ETHICAL: Libel
Libel is an ethical issue we must ensure we adhere to. Libel is the use of data that is untrue or damaging to one's reputation. As the magazine will contain content of people within the film industry with high profile and low profile we must ensure all content is used with a positive initiative in order to avoid libel and any further lawsuits and other issues that can be caused by this.

ETHICAL: Respecting people's boundaries
Respecting the people's boundaries is critical in our magazine to ensure we are able to use different types of personnel from within the film industry we must ensure that the way we are treating and handling their data is used ethically. For instance, if we interview a costume designer and they tell us to not use certain information if we disobey the person's wishes this will become a constraint to finding more people to contribute to our magazine.
