Planning and Preparing a Pitch

 Planning and Preparing a Pitch (P3, M2, U21)

Learning Outcome 2 (21): Be able to create a proposal and pitch for an original media product based on a given brief

There was a technical issue with the recording of my pitch, as a result, I am unable to upload this onto my blogger. However, this is the feedback that I received.

Feedback Given from Practice Pitch-

Strengths:

-Catchy film-relevant title

-Clear purpose and genre. The 5 ideas for the content aspect are well thought out, relevant, and engaging fro this specific idea

-The idea of offering interviews with 'aspiring' and inspiring industry personnel is clear and relevant (Please develop this idea further, identifying specific individuals or roles)

-Clear reasons for the choice of font style-which you link to the content and idea for the magazine

-Eye-catching front cover

Improvements:

-Although you break down the target audience, please say more about your primary and secondary and possibly your tertiary audience ( with clear reasons)

-Develop your ideas/plans for how you will market the magazine

-The budget needs more attention: itemize and cost each item in more detail

-Identify potential competitor magazines and then explain the USP for your idea

-Review your DPS and ensure it is symmetrical in its design

QUESTIONS FROM CLIENT

1.) Where do you intend to distribute the posters?

As mentioned in my pitch one of my methods to promote the magazine will be through posters that will include "sneak peaks" of the magazine. I plan on distributing these posters across locations within North London that are evidently noticeable. For instance, on motorways usually, there are boards where posters are put. These boards are beneficial as conventionally when people are stuck in traffic on these motorways usually become "bored" and look around which they will come across our poster. Additionally, I intend on promoting the magazine on digital posters that can be found at bus stops. These bus stops are found in every location in North London, therefore promoting the magazine on these bus stops creates a constant reminder to our target audience of what we have to offer.

2.)Why is the form of your magazine as an online copy more expensive than the hard copy?

I had chosen to create the form of our magazine as an online copy at the price of £5.99 which is £1 more than the hardcopy. I decided on the prices based on the behavior demographic of our target audience. It is evident that the ages of 18-25 are more likely to buy products online whereas in real life. This is because technology has created buying products very accessible and efficient. Therefore, I have decided to take this as an opportunity, however, if the rate of sales does stem more from real-life purchases in comparison to online purchases then the price will change.

3.) How do you intend to balance entertainment and education within the magazine's content?

As mentioned in my pitch the purpose of my magazine is to educate young people who want to pursue film production. However, to captivate the target audience I must create a balance of entertainment and education. I will do this by including images that are visually interesting. I intend on providing at least an image alongside each page that accommodates the content within an article. For instance, as seen in the double-page spread I used an image that portrays the genre of the movie  "La La Land" and alongside that, I included an image of the costume design mock-up of the "iconic" yellow dress worn by the female actor. Through these images, I would have satisfied the entertainment purpose of the magazine. Additionally, I included an interview with the costume designer of "La La Land" to satisfy the educational aspect.

4.)How do you intend on advertising the magazine across social media platforms?

Within the pitch, I mentioned my second marketing method will be to advertise the magazine across social platforms. One social platform I mentioned was TikTok. I decided to advertise my magazine on TikTok as statistics showed that a large part of my target audience is active daily on Tiktok. I play on creating short videos that present my magazine in day-to-day situations. For instance, creating a video of people sitting on the tube where everyone is on their phones; this is a conventional behavior. However, there's one person on the tube who is reading the magazine, and this enables the magazine to stand out.

5.)How do you intend on distributing content within the magazine?

Evidently, the most important part of a magazine is the content, however, the way the content is distributed throughout the magazine is what pushes the reader to flip across the pages. For example, I mentioned how the front cover of the magazine will include an image of an indie film production that was just released or is very popular. This will be done to captivate the target audience. However, articles about this film production will only be found near the end of the magazine or in the middle; the reader then must scroll through the page where they might come across another article or image that they will be intrigued by.

6.)How will you ensure to adhere to legal issues such as The Copyright Act, 1988?

Adhering to legal issues is crucial for multiple reasons including the reputation of the brand, protecting the brand and its personnel, and ensuring no one is offended by the content of the magazine. To ensure the magazine adheres to legal issues I will hire someone such as an operational manager so that they overview each magazine. As well as, before each magazine is distributed to the general public it will be run across all of our personnel who will also be a multi-cultural group, this way even if the magazine adheres to all legal issues we ensure that in our target audiences perspective, the magazine is inclusive and appropriate ( fits its purposes).

7.) How will you create your magazine specifically to target North London?

As my primary target audience is 18-25-year-olds based in North London, I must ensure the magazine includes relatable content. Conventionally, magazines include educational and entertaining content, however, this captivates a vague target audience within the film industry. In comparison to these magazines Behind The Lens will include interviews with aspiring personnel within the film industry. This way, we hope to captivate and inspire people within North London as they might feel a sense of comfort and motivation through these aspiring personnel.
